A love of Arizona and the belief that home buyers would respond favorably to a company committed to quality, value and superior performance led to the creation of RS Homes. Charlie Owen, a Kentucky lawyer, businessman and entrepreneur teamed up with Richard Sinagoga, Assistant Director of the Resolution Trust Corporation, and together they opened the doors of RS Homes in 1994. Their first development was a 40-acre tract of land on the eastern slope of Troon Mountain which they named "Los Pueblos".
The location in northeast Scottsdale was a plus, as was the scenery, but the chance to prove they could plan and build quality houses with unusual value in one setting was the guiding principle behind Los Pueblos. RS Homes created a team of selected architects, engineers, subcontractors, interior designers and real estate professionals who planned every aspect of Los Pueblos. The homes themselves exhibited an unusual regard for exterior appeal and interior livability. Consisting of 36 custom and semi-custom homes, Los Pueblos was touted by the real estate community as "the best development of its kind in Troon". And no wonder - the architectural styles, sizes, colors, lighting and landscaping all complemented one another and created added value for every owner. Lee Hutchison, the award-winning architect engaged to design Los Pueblos, says this: "After 30 years as an architect, I can say without reservation that Los Pueblos is the community I am most proud of."
This initial success prompted prospective homeowners who had seen Los Pueblos to ask the Company to expand beyond Troon Mountain and, in 1997, RS Homes did exactly that when it entered the "build-to-suit" market. While there are distinct differences between the first and second phases of the RS Homes Business Plan, there are also several constants which have guided the Company's growth. The "Team Approach" to planning that proved so successful initially was continued. Superior styling, materials and workmanship were again emphasized both to distinguish the Company and increase the value of each homeowner's investment. Finally, the partners decided to limit their commitments to 15 homes or fewer each year. That decision permits management to concentrate on every project and protect the Company's reputation for quality, value and superior performance.
Fourteen years later, there is reason to believe the Company's philosophy has been confirmed by the marketplace. The Home Builders Association of Central Arizona has bestowed its "Custom Home of the Year" award on RS Homes six years in a row (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007). There have also been other awards, both national and regional, and RS Homes has been featured in several recent articles appearing in The Scottsdale Tribune, Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine and the Arizona Republic. Most persuasive of all, however, is the fact that when three of the original owners at Los Pueblos decided to build new residences in the Valley, all of them selected RS Homes as their builder. That's a history we're not only proud of but one we strive to live up to - each and every day.
